Girls softball plays to win

On Tuesday, April 28, the varsity girl’s softball team won 20-1 in a home game against Calvary Vista High School.

In the end the score was not the only thing that made the team victorious. Despite some last minute changes of field positions and the scorching heat, the girls played hard while showing exceptional sportsmanship.

Sophomore Sydney Johnson, who normally plays left outfield, played infield and ended up hitting her first home run, as well as the first of the season. “It felt really good,” Johnson said.

According to Maggie Seidel, the highlight of the game was, “definitely Sydney’s home run.”

It was a short game and an easy win, but the girls gave it their all from beginning to end.

The girls in the dugout did unique chants to support their team throughout most of the game. “We started the ‘radishes’ chant, which means ‘kick their butts’, because we wanted to be nice [to the other team] and say it secretly” Seidel said.

Regardless of the score, the team as a whole strives to show positive sportsmanship. “Sportsmanship is giving all you’ve got while still lifting the spirits of the other team,” Teiya Staebell said.
