NASA recently released an image taken by the rover Curiosity at the base of Mount Sharp on Mars. The rocks in the pictures appear purple due to an iron-oxide mineral.

Wednesday

Obama has offered his condolences to the Turkish Prime Minister after a nightclub in Turkey was attacked during a New Year’s Eve celebration, leaving 39 people dead. ISIS has claimed responsibility.

Thursday

Approved in the November 2016 election, a San Francisco tax on all soda and sugary beverages is now in effect. The tax is one cent per ounce of beverage.

Friday

Tilikum, the bull orca featured in the documentary film “Blackfish,” died Friday morning at SeaWorld. The exact reason is unknown.
