ESCONDIDO — With the thoughts of candy and parties fresh in everyone’s minds, students took time during lunch to gather in the quad area of the campus for festivities. Participation in a pumpkin bowling and a fashion contest on October 31, a Friday, set the mood for everyone’s Halloween fun.

The fashion contest brought out the creative side of the school, as students were able to dress up as anything (dress code appropriate) that they could imagine.

During lunch, costumed students walked down the orange runway to show off and dazzle students and the judges. Mr. Farmer, Mr. Harris, Mr. Van Sickle, Mrs. Lovell, Ms. Lieber, Mr. Sherlock, and Mr. McGaugh judged the costumes.

Various characters participated in the event, including juniors Danny Miller and Emily Sturges as Jack and Sally Skellington, and seniors Maile Polancic and Christian Winter as a unicorn and “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Senior Adrianna Hedden, who wore a Bart Simpson suit, had her costume in storage. “My mom bought [the costume] on eBay about a year ago for her costume contest, and we had it in our garage,” said Hedden. “I thought it would be relevant.”

The students in costumes felt that getting older is not a reason to stop dressing up. “You can [dress up] at any age,” said Hedden.

Senior Adam Alvarez dressed up as a Capri Sun pouch. Alvarez said, “It doesn’t matter the age, you just [get to] have fun.”

At the end of the fashion show, the school staff members judged each different costume and awarded the winning students. “I enjoyed [the judging], I thought it was very nice. The Capri Sun dude and the Transformer guy were very original,” said sophomore Andrew Musselman.

After each teacher finished their pick on the best students’ costume, the event proceeded with pumpkin bowling, in which students used pumpkins to knock down pins at the end of the runway. Junior Hannah Brittain said, “[Pumpkin bowling] was super great; I loved how unique [all the bowlers] were.”

School rallies for holidays always bring a large amount of enthusiasm from the student body, and this year’s celebration of Halloween was no exception. Students got to show some school spirit before the weekend, along with their own seperate Halloween festivities, started.
