Everybody has a day where they just feel gross. And with this pandemic, it seems everyday I, personally, feel gross. Working out, unwinding, and even a little pampering can go a long way!
There is nothing like waking up and making your bed. You have already completed the first task of the day and it gives you a sense of accomplishment. As U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McRaven said, “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” Then, before you do anything else, take a piece of paper or a planner and write out your goals for the day. “Every minute you spend in planning saves 10 minutes in execution; this gives you a 1000 percent return on energy!” (Brian Tracy)
Music. Just pure, beautiful music is one of the most powerful motivators and alarms I find useful. Waking up to a worship song or your favorite jam is rejuvenating and uplifting when starting the morning, especially one that is upbeat and positive!
Take some time for a little spa treatment! Nothing feels better than being clean and fresh! And this isn’t just for you gals; guys can do it too! There are so many fun simple DIY face masks, scrubs, bath bombs, lotions, etc. that don’t include chemicals that upset sensitive skin! But, there is nothing wrong with a nice beauty product from your favorite store or company! Just take an hour, or more or less, to de-stress for a moment and put the technology away! With zoom classes for most of the day, our eyes need a break to relax and be away from screens. Lets try not to get that zoom fatigue!
Stay social! I am 99% introverted (according to the 16 personalities test), and would much prefer to read a book under a blanket by the fire than go out and socialize. While that is healthy, it’s just as important to stay social and connected! Text your friend good morning! Write some snail mail to an old pal! Facetime your classmates while you do homework…it’s much more fun than doing it alone.
Then there’s exercise! Personally, I fail constantly in this area. I would much prefer to play my guitar and read a book than find a way to move my body. But working out isn’t just healthy for your body, it helps greatly with mental health! And that I learned from personal experience! Even just 40 minutes a day is really all you need. And if you can find a way to incorporate an outside activity or move your exercise outside, even better! Since we sit inside on screens all day, it’s important to get fresh air and see the sun every now and then!
It’s best to remember that despite our feelings of laziness and lethargy, we still need to take care of our bodies. Whether it’s eating a healthier diet, having spa time, or taking the time to actually get ready before zoom, any little effort counts, and the more you do it, the better you will feel!
