Career Day, which took place on February 20th, gave students the opportunity to listen to numerous speakers describe their careers.

“I found it interesting that we were able to talk to people who were in a career that we might want to pursue later on. I think career day is an amazing [opportunity] because people can go out and talk to people about something they are interested in and see how they got there,” senior Lucas Barton said. “I went to the local business owner because I want to open my own local cafe where I can show off local artists and just have people come and hang out.”

Although Barton has a career path in place, many of his peers are unsure of what profession they wish to pursue or could not find a speaker with the career they planned to follow. “[I want to pursue] zoology or something like that, but none of [the speakers] were really like that so I thought I’d pick something that I didn’t know about. I think career day is good because most teenagers don’t know what they are going to do later in life,” sophomore Ciara Atencio said.

Mr. Haynes, in addition to enlightening students about his profession as a golf superintendent, shared this wise suggestion. “My advice would be to find something that you love to do … and go after it 100% because it’s important to have fun at work, to enjoy what you do and not hate it every morning.”
