Holiday to-do list!
Once again, we’ve entered the most wonderful time of the year, where lights line every house and the smell of baked goods fill the air. You might think you’ve done everything there is to do in San Diego, but California’s southern cities brim with countless things to see and do this holiday season. Let’s start off with a block lined with lights settled in Poway.
1. Candy Cane Lane in Poway
Do you love Christmas lights? Then you will be addicted to Candy Cane Lane in Poway. Your whole family will love driving around the the block looking at each house filled to the max with lights. Be sure to bring some cookies and hot chocolate too! (Hickory Street & Butterwood Ct, Poway, CA 92064)
2. Holiday movie marathon
It’s finally getting cold outside, so you have to take advantage of it! It’s the perfect time to cuddle up in a blanket cocoon and watch Christmas classics such as Elf, Home Alone, The Santa Clause and more.
3. Buy presents for children in need
Part of the joy of the holidays is giving to others. So, why not go out and make a child’s Christmas? Plus, wrapping all those gifts you bought is extremely satisfying.
4. Bake cookies/Make a gingerbread house
There are so many amazing sweets to bake during winter, whether it’s classic sugar cookies or triple chocolate cookies, the possibilities are endless! You also can’t forget to build a gingerbread house. Gingerbread houses are a holiday baking staple.
5. Blast Christmas music
Music is a crucial part of many teenagers’ lives, having the power to alter moods and energy levels. It’s no surprise, then, that there is a ton of Christmas music in an array of genres. Here’s a go-to list for varied holiday spirit!
6. Get a Christmas tree and decorate it with family
We’ve been putting up Christmas trees since the 16th century. Many still participate in this tradition, and although it’s been tweaked to fit a wide array of needs, ranging from artificial trees to trees made of books and other random items, the tradition still stands today.
7. See Santa!
Who says high schoolers are too old to visit Santa at the mall? Whether your parents are forcing you to go with your younger siblings or if you are, like me, refusing to believe you are growing up, seeing Santa is vital. How else will he know what you want for Christmas?
8. Ice skating
Snow is an obvious stranger to Southern California, but perpetual summertime hasn’t impeded the efforts of frost fanatics. The Ice-plex (informally and beautifully known as the Iceoplex) in Escondido offers a skate rental for just $10.
9. See The Grinch that Stole Christmas at the Old Globe
Did you ever read “The Grinch that Stole Christmas” when you were little? If you did, then this musical at the Old Globe is sure to bring back memories. Once again, this show is perfect for families with kids of all ages, and is sure to become a family tradition.
