Taylor Swift was born in 1989 and, now, 25 years later she commemorated that year with the release of her new album entitled 1989. Her songs were inspired by the music of that era like Phil Collins and Madonna (cnn.com).

She worked with Jack Antonoff and Max Martin to assist with lyric development (wikipedia.com). Leading up to the album, Swift dropped hints all over social media featuring lyrics from the album, on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus.

When the album was finally released, it sold like hotcakes. 1989 is the only other sound track along with Frozen to sell 1 million copies in 2014(cnn.com). 1989 had the highest sales week, with 1.2 million, since Eminem’s album The Eminem Show which sold 1.3 million(wikipedia .com).

The songs on her first pop album include “Blank Space” and “Shake it Off.”  When asked to describe 1989, junior Faith Pigeon said, “I don’t know how to describe it because it is so amazing. I like how even though she is not country anymore she does pop really well and it’s just mind blowing.”

However, some have the opposite opinion. “I’ve heard a couple of songs, and I don’t really like them. I think the songs can be repetitive in the lyrics,” sophomore Morgan Kuriger said.
